Double stranded RNA is recognized by Dicer, then cleaved into smaller pieces of dsRNA.  RISC will then bind the one strand of the RNA.  It will look for complimentary RNA and degrade it.  The dsRNA is necessary for recognition by Dicer and RISC.</description>
